October 2017

Just when you think things will calm down a bit, another hectic month for the club with some very notable achievements.

It all started with firstly (provisional), news that it was very much on the cards that we had won the Bridgend Club Running League with 9 of the top 20 runners being Harriers, Ian Ogilvie being first man and Melanie Williams first lady.

Once the “final, final” results came in on 17th October – we remained on top, 877 points ahead of our nearest rivals, Bridgend AC, 10 in top 20, 7 of the top 10 but a change at the very top, due to age gradings, elevated Colin McQueen to no. 1 with a bullet and Ian at 6 (4th man). Mel stayed the top lady with Charlotte Johns second.

Brilliant results from the club as a whole and more on this in October’s summary, after the BCRL Awards Night.

2nd September

Barrybados – 16 Harriers enjoyed a BOT (Brackla on Tour) away day to Barry Island. A really beautiful morning for it. 2 laps with one short, steep hill thrown in (twice!!!) but a good finishing straight. Chris Jeynes, Matt Bunce, Ryan Bunce and Matthew Churchill all did pb’s at this location and 11 of us were first timers there. We had 4 of the first 5 runners, in order, 1. Chris Jeynes, 2. John Lloyd, 4. Jon Holland, 5. Colin McQueen.

Good report on the Barry Island Parkrun Facebook site, taken from Barry and District News –

Maesteg – Richard Steele, 1st time at location.

Roman Run – Brecon to Merthyr via the scenic route

10 Harriers took part, Ian Ogilvie a very creditable 16th.

All done I hope. Apologies if I have got any details, times, dates, events, names wrong or missed. If so, please add as a comment when Chris Jeynes posts this on our Facebook Group.

What another monster month for the Harriers!!! Very well done everyone!!!

No rest for October with nearly 40 Harriers entered for the Cardiff Half Marathon. More on that next month.
